One night my homie and I were leaving the gym from running a couple of pick-up games at the local 24 Hour Fitness. Our attention was immediately grabbed by a lady in the parking lot struggling with inserting a new set of fuses in her car’s fuse box, which would turn on the car’s dashboard lights. She asked did we know anything about connecting them correctly, I answered no because I’m a complete idiot when it comes to fixing cars or maintaing their maintenance. My friend answered the same, and she continued to struggle as we walked to my car. Later as we were down the road I told my friend “Man that white lady better get from out there before it get too late, boys will have her whip at the chop shop..”. He then replied “Hell yea. I could’ve switch them fuses out for her but I didn’t feel like doin that shit..” SMH.
I’m not claiming to be a saint by any means, and I certainly wouldn’t be considered as a runner-up for a humanitarian award in the Dallas community, but if I see someone in distress and I’m able to help I
WILL. I like to think of myself as a kind-hearted person, I get it from my momma, so I like helping people when I’m able.
I recently challenged my friends and coworkers to do at least one good deed for someone everyday, just one. It doesn’t have to involve money neither, often people associate help with opening their wallets. You don’t have to go broke helping people. There is a film that illustrates what I’m suggesting better titled
‘Pay It Forward’, starring Kevin Spacey. Good movie, rent it if you can.
Again this is just a suggestion of mine, I’m not trying to preach. No soapbox. But I guarantee the great feeling that you get from helping a fellow neighbor or stranger is a feeling like no other..
